Igor Stravinsky [ Source: http://www.igorstravinsky.com/ ] Considered by many the greatest composer of the 20th century, Stravinsky was both composer and conductor. Historically he is perhaps best known for breaking new musical ground, because of the riot which occurred at the premier of his ballet 'The Rite of Spring' (1913). Earlier ballets were 'Firebird' (1910) and 'Petrushka' (1911). Symphonic works included Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1920), Symphony in C (1940). and Symphony in Three Movements (1945). Other orchestral works included Concerto for Piano and Winds (1924), Dumbarton Oaks Concerto (1938), and Ebony Concerto (1945) Operatic works include Oedipus Rex (1927) and The Rake's Progress (1951) Choral music includes Symphony of Psalms (1930), Canticum Sacrum (1955), Threni (1958) and Requeim Canticles (1966)
